I like the fire

Thursday, June 25, 2009

Chad Ochocinco is back to his old form. He is looking to embarrass the competition and put up numbers. Don't be surprised if he decides to start sleeping at Paul Brown stadium again this year to "get his mind right"

In workouts the other day the wide outs had to run 14 40 yd dashes. They broke into two groups. Chad ran with both groups. All 28 sprints. That's what I like to see.

Chad is even talking smack on his twitter account:

Thanks to CincyJungle for the pic.

Bengals News and Notes

Monday, June 22, 2009

The Bengals are going to have a pretty good line backer crew. Two young guys from USC that aren't used to losing and also were stars are going to be adding some intensity to the middle of the defense. Before ending his season on a pansy blindside block by Pittsburgh's Hines Ward, Keith Rivers was leading the team in tackles. Add his buddy Ray Maualuga and the Bengals are going to be pretty strong. From the article:

At USC, Rivers lost only five games, Maualuga six. Now they're trying to resurrect a team that has had only one winning season in the last 18 years and went 4-11-1 last year.

An interesting write-up of the Bengals needs at running back. I disagree with the author. I think Cedric Benson can be an answer for the Bengals. It doesn't make much sense to bring up last years running stats for good or bad. It is true Ced got his big numbers against some awful teams, but it is also true that the Bengals line was absolutely terrible all season. With Carson out the opposing team did not respect the passing game and the box was stacked against the running backs. No one would have success behind that line last year.

As a team, the Bengals are in need of two things at running back: A home-run hitter and a third-down option. Benson is more of a grinder who averaged just 3.5 yards per carry in 2008.

There will be no Brokeback at the Palmer abode. It just goes to show, no matter how rich and famous you are, the lady still runs the house.

“As soon as I walked in the door from work the other day, she just gave me that look,” Palmer said. “I’m like, ‘Whoa, calm down. It’s media stuff. It’s Chad being Chad.’
“I told her, ‘Don’t worry. I haven’t made any commitments to having to clear out the boxes in the (spare) room to make a bed for him. Don’t worry about that. It’s not going to happen.’ ”
Undeterred, Ochocinco keeps insisting he’s staying with the Palmers.
“No,” Carson said. “I just told him that unless he’s picking up my mortgage for the month of July and August, he can’t stay. He’s not living for free. I don’t need another kid around the house.”

On the subject of Chad. He was recently on the first installment of the HBO Joe Buck show. Joe Buck is a moron and of course like most media brought up arrests with Cincinnati. Chad responded the best saying:

"He took a couple of shots at me; that's what he gets," The Ocho said. "He took shots at me for things I've never really done before. The topic of discussion really didn't fit me. Showing the people that have been arrested and been in trouble, and really with regards to my team, about the arrests we've had. We've been clean for three years. Why even bring that back up? It didn't make any sense."

Catching Up

Catching up. Many of you know I was fortunate enough to attend the first annual Blogs with Balls conference in NYC last weekend. This was the first of its kind gathering of some of the biggest most influential bloggers on the net and I got to meet many cool people. A couple of my favorites were Adam Best of ArrowheadAddict and owner of the fansided network. I have talked with Adam and his brother Zack several times over the years and it was nice to put a face to the name. I also really enjoyed meeting Matt ufford of WithLeather. I have been a big fan of his writing for some time and thought (correctly) that he would be cool to hang out with in a bar. My favorite was the closing chat had with Gary Vaynerchuk. If you don't know this guy, check him out on YouTube, the guy just knows what to say. If he doesn't motivate you then you may be unmotivatable (a word?). I also really enjoyed meeting the writers behind TheBigLead, DeadSpin, JoeSportsFan and KissingSuzyKolber.

I also got to meet Todd Lipincott one of the writers for WhoDeyRevolution. Todd is a cool guy and actually got a lot of people interested in the WhoDeyRevolution cause when he spoke. More people than I expected were sympathetic to his message and got a kick out of the "Project Mayhem" tasks that he talked about.

Lastly and probably most importantly. For whatever reason Darren Hollywood (a writer here) decided at 3:00am Sunday morning to get a tattoo of a rooster on his arm in the West Village in Manhattan. Pictures will come soon.

A Rare MMQB Mention

Not Sure what is going on in Peter King Land but for some reason, he remembered that the Bengals are a professional football team and deserve a mention in his ramblings that are labeled "The Monday Morning Quarterback". In the 10 things I think section the Bengals got back to back mentions at 5 and 6. Number 5 he discussed the way the Bengals have handled the Chad Ochocinco trade demands compared the Denver Broncos and their current train wreck. Then at number 6 he says:

"6. I think Laveranues Coles might be the perfect receiver to replace T.J. Houshmandzadeh in Cincinnati, because Coles, who hates to talk to the press, is glad to cede all the interviews to Chad Ochocinco while he just plays. Coles is healthy now. If Carson Palmer can stay upright, Coles is going to catch 70 balls, easy."

I don't know the last time King has mentioned the Bengals in anything that can closely resemble a positive light.

The Diva's of the AFC North

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

There has been way to much about Chad Johnson over the past year. Some of it admittedly has been well deserved (last season for example). I for one am going to stay the course and say that I don't care what this guy says or does off the field as long as he produces on the field.

I don't care that he missed voluntary camp. I don't care that he still may want to be traded. I don't care that he is trying to be adopted by the Palmer's (nice conversation write up care of KissingSuzyColber)

You know what Chad has not done in the offseason? He has not been arrested for hitting the herb in his land rover like Santonio Holmes of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He also has managed to not kill anyone driving drunk. The guy doesn't even drink.

Now the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens are both attempting to make a play for wide receiver Brandon Marshall (PFT). Way to keep pace with the division. This is a guy who can't seem to stop slapping girlfriends (or any girl for that matter).

No thanks, I will stick with the 5 time pro-bowler who I expect to put up big numbers this year. (In English or in Spanish).

Soul Patch has some fans

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Originally posted at CincyFan.com

It is true, apparently the soul patch has some fans. I am willing to bet however these people are not Bengal fans. The Sporting News (a publication I usually respect) has ranked the top 20 Offensive coordinators in the league currently. The brain trust over there has decided that our own run run pass Bob is the number 8 offensive coordinator in the NFL. Last seasons last place offense didn't scare this group.

It is no secret our feelings on the gutless wonder that Bob is / has become. He has no originality, can not adjust and does not go for the kill. This is a guy who most sports fans in Cincinnati think should have been given his walking papers after the last few seasons.

Maybe the article was meant to rank Bob as the 8th best coordinator in the AFC North. This I would buy.
