In an absolutely disastrous move, the Bengals cut Jeff Rowe yesterday. WHAT?!?

Here is a video of the reaction in the Whodefans office as news spread:

Jeff Rowe was not only a personal favorite of Whodeyfans, but this now shows a ridiculous use of a draft pick by the Bengals. The Bengals used a 5th round pick on Jeff Rowe last season to be the long term backup. Since then, the Bengals traded a 7th round pick for Ryan Fitzpatrick and picked up Carson's brother off the street. So the Bengals know viable backups can be had for nothing or 7th round picks, so why would they waste a 5th round pick on Rowe? This sequence of events makes no sense. Then again, the Bengals front office has never been accused of being smart, or well run, or even competent for that matter.

Who Will Get Slices and Diced?

Friday, August 29, 2008

The Bengals currently have 76 players on the roster and they must cut to 53 by Sunday night. Which 23 players will get the ax? Here is our best guess:

Definite Cuts: James Blair, Dane Uperesa, Maurice Purify, James Johnson, and Jordan Palmer on offense. On defense, Carl-Johan Bjork, sad to say but he will not be on the 53 man roster. He should be on the practice squad which will keep everyone happy; Antwon Burton, Simeon Castille, Anthony Hoke, Dan Howell, and John Busing will be gone.

Chris Henry will be suspended, so he will not count against the roster. That leaves 11 players left to cut. We believe these are most likely:

Nate Lawrie: Lawrie has been off and on with the Bengals for the past 2 seasons. He has size and receiving ability as TE and plays special teams. However, TE is suddenly a loaded position with the Bengals, filled by Reggie Kelly, Ben Utecht, Daniel Coats FB/TE, and new draft pick Matt Sherry. Lawrie probably will not break into that group.

Kyle Cook: Currently listed as the 3rd center. Even though center is a weak spot for the Bengals, 2nd stringer Dan Santucci was a draft pick by the Bengals, and Bobbie Williams has received work at center.

Michael Myers: An 11 year pro signed for depth will not survive the numbers game at Dline. The Bengals drafted 2 tackles in the offseason and will not cut either of them.

Angelo Craig: Current 7th round draft pick also will not survive the Dline numbers load. Hopefully Craig will clear waivers and return to the Bengals practice squad to develop as a future DE.

Eric Henderson: Continues to show flashes of being a good pro pass rusher, but the Bengals cannot cut sure things for potential. Odom, Rucker, Geathers and Fanene will be the ends. Henderson has a shot to make the team depending on Odom’s health, and depending on special teams needs.

HeranaDaze Jones: The Bengals will keep 4 or maybe 5 safeties, 4 spots are locked: Jackson, White, Ndukwe, and Lynch. Jones could take a possible 5th spot, but Kyries Hebert is higher on the depth chart and looked better in the preseason. Hebert also has more game experience being a 4 year pro in the CFL.

There are 5 players left to cut, and now things get very interesting. First, what do the Bengals do at RB? Currently, the only definite keepers appear to be Chris Perry, Kenny Watson, and Daniel Coats due to his ability to play TE and RB. That opens Rudi, Dorsey and Jeremi Johnson. If Rudi is healthy, he is in, but what have the Bengals seen this preseason? Do they think he is done? Dede Dorsey has shown speed and breakaway ability, too bad he has also shown a tendency to fumble, a lack of size in blocking, and many injuries. Do they risk a roster spot on him? And anyone who watched the game last night got to see just how fat Jeremi Johnson is. He made Jared Lorenzen look like one of the Olsen twins. Too bad the Bengals have not sought a replacement for Jeremi. Without another option, Jeremi may make the team by default and turn into the 21st century James Francis.

Rookie drafted TE Matt Sherry also could be cut if the Bengals believe he can clear waivers and hit the practice squad. I do not think another team is eyeing Sherry, but we’ll see what the Bengals think.

Nate Livings, a backup guard could be a victim of the Bengals line versatility. Whitworth, Stacy Andrews, Scott Kooistra and Bobbie Williams all play multiple positions. Therefore the Bengals may not see a need for Nate Livings.

Besides those listed above, the Bengals will probably cut at least one more LB. Two years ago this statement would have been unbelievable, but the decision is between Ahmad Brooks and Jim Maxwell. Brooks was a 3rd round draft pick with the enough physical ability to be handed the starting MLB job. Maxwell is an undrafted free agent out of Gardner Webb that has bounced around the NFL for 3 years. Brooks has not adapted well to the NFL, and Maxwell realizes his role with the team is to be a special teams standout and spot player on defense. Will the Bengals give up on Brooks and keep Maxwell for special teams?

Here is a prediction for the final 5 cuts: Dorsey, Livings, Sherry, Maxwell, and Kyries Hebert. We’ll see if there are any surprises on Sunday.

WhoDey Fan of the Week: Preseason Saints!

Monday, August 25, 2008

Who needs shirts with numbers and names when you have plaid. Ripped sleeves on a shirt from the thrift store and throwing up gangster signs is how this weeks fan breaks down his tailgate adventures.

This fan is all about the tailgate. He drinks as much as humanly possible before the game because he's too cheap to buy beers in the stadium. Smuggling plastic bottles of Miller Lite in his socks, and constantly looking over his shoulder like the Colombian border patrol are after him.

If he has a favorite activity other than drinking and football it probably includes hunting, trailer repair, or driving big trucks. Thankfully this fan wasn't much of a talker so we didn't have to listen to anything he wanted to say.

There a number of ways to spot a WhoDey fan. One way is buy the ugly bright orange shirts some of them where instead of a jersey. The other is by their tower of glass beer bottles. Where ever there is a tower of empty beer containers, you can bet a WhoDey fan isn't far away.

The best part about this fan is when walking to the game his friends demanded he had too much sleeve. They then ripped off what little thread remained on both arms, then tried to rip off the front pocket. That's when the entire shirt was ripped in half. I wish I had a picture of the fan after this.

Loser fan of the week, we here at WhoDeyFans applaud your ripped sleeves and look forward to your future red neck adventures! All you other fans who take it to the next level, keep a look out for the Who Dey authors and earn your spot as our fan of the week.

Bengals limping—just like last year.

But it’s nothing to worry about—just like last year.

Not to worry, these guys are just sprained or tweaked. They will surely be ready to go for the season. Just ask Marvin Lewis. Forget Odom’s foot, Santuccis’s ankle, Andre Caldwell’s foot, Pat Sim’s foot, Ndukwe’s knee, Chad Johnson’s shoulder, TJ’s hammy or Rudi’s pride.

Nothing to worry about. Nothing to see here.

Unless you ask Ahmad Brooke’s groin, or Chris Perry’s entire leg. If body parts could talk, they would tell you a different story: one that starts with Marvin talking about a quick recovery and ends on the IR.

Not that all these guys have sustained season ending injuries, chances are none of them did. The problem exists in how many non-playing injured guys sit on the roster while backup players that have been immersed in the system are cut before this coming weekend.

When special teams miss tackles, or a backup corner we pick up in the first week of the season doesn’t know his assignment, remember who to blame. It’s not the players. It’s the guys who aren’t diagnosing the injuries and moving on. Because it’s almost certain that if a foot, a shoulder, knee or hammy could talk, one of them would tell you that they’re done for the season.

But they can’t talk. So don’t worry, listen to Marvin. They’ll surely be back in the lineup any day.

Preseason woes

Another preseason game in the books. I am not going to go through what I liked and what I didn't like. I didn't like much.

Before everyone calls this season a failure, lets keep in mind that we are basically seeing the Bengals second string offense taking on the number one defense of the Saints. Yeah, there are starters on the line and Carson Palmer is playing but this is no representation of the Bengals first string offense. The line is experimenting with how they should line up. There is no starting wide receiver on the field. The starting running back (Johnson) is not picking up the blitzes that he has been picking up for the last several years. I could go on and on. Perry looks good running the ball mostly but he needs to do a better job picking up the blitz and saving Palmer.

Peter King (you all know how we feel about him around here) even states in his Monday Morning article that he is not worried about the Bengals offense. They are going to get it together and they are going to score some points.

The Bengals D on Saturday did a decent job. After giving up 10 initial points to the Saints they held strong for the rest of the game. This is encouraging, the Saints are a team that can move the ball and put up chunks of points. The Bengals do have areas where they need to improve, Marvin White is learning that he needs to tackle and not just blow people up, but I like the progress I am seeing on the defensive side of the ball.

Why Henry is good for the Bengals

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

The Bengals have a need at wide receiver. In this past draft this need was addressed for the future with 2nd and 3rd round draft picks. These wide receivers of the future should be solid contributors in the next 2 to 5 years. However, this does not help the situation now.

What if there was a wide receiver who on an average team in 2006 played against the teams in the AFC north as a third wide out. In those games these are his stats:

- 2 games against Cleveland 154 yards and 2 touchdowns.
- 2 games against Pittsburgh 193 yards and 3 touchdowns.
- one game against Baltimore 79 yards no touchdowns.

Those are incredibly outstanding numbers for a third wide receiver. They are outstanding for most number 1 wide receivers. These are Chris Henry's stats for 2006.

Bengals fans will complain about everything. The most recent are that the Bengals won't take risks to win. The biggest risk the Bengals could have taken with possibly the biggest payout would be to sign Henry to a small deal and solidify the wide out position for 12 games this season. Henry was signed to a league minimum 2 year contract that probably has some stipulations about conduct.

The Bengals are my football team. Football is a sport. I want nothing more than for the Bengals to win. I don't hold the players as my moral compass or put them on some larger than life pedestal. They are people, some good some bad, some smart and in Henry's case, not to smart. If your kids need an idol buy them a Palmer or Kitna jersey.

I can't understand so much outrage from a town that cries because Pete Rose is not in the hall of fame. He only sold drugs, gambled on baseball and lied. But man, he was good on the field.

Who Dey. Long live slim 15.

WhoDey Fan of the Week!

Monday, August 18, 2008

Despite last nights game still being preseason, we fans are out in full force. We don jerseys labeled with 9s or 85s, some lace up their favorite orange shoes, and some go all out.

This weeks WhoDey fan of the week goes to someone who isn't afraid of exposed nipples, orange happy trails, stripped skin, or colorful boxers. This nameless Fan sat in the heat risking exposure to dangerous cancer causing rays while his girlfriend painted a jersey on his back and chest. The Fan talked to me about how disappointing he is when people don't go all out for preseason games. To show them all how proper tail gating is done, he took his fanaticism to the next level.

The Fan likes to play it cool on hot summer days, enjoying a cigarette while wrapping his man-tiger arm around his girl friend. It looks like they started to run out of paint when they reached his panty line, or maybe his girl friend just got nervous. Welcome to 3rd base WhoDey fan!

He demanded that all of his pictures had to also have his painter in them. So I demanded that he pose like a tiger. I have no idea what he thinks tigers do, but they don't expose unpainted pits. I think when I said tiger he may have thought pterodactyl.
I'm unsure why the painter doesn't move in any of the pictures. We took several and she doesn't move at all. She was either horribly regretting the decision to paint our WhoDey Fan, or so proud that her work was finally being recognized that she was doing everything she could to stay calm and collected.

Loser fan of the week, we here at WhoDeyFans applaud your painted chest and look forward to your future body painting adventures! All you other fans who take it to the next level, keep a look out for the Who Dey authors and earn your spot as our fan of the week.

What I did and didn't like Bengals Vs. Lions

Game two of the pre-season is in the books. If this is any indication of how the Bengals will play at home then we are in for a long season. Before we take to the streets to protest another losing season lets keep it in perspective that this is only a preseason game.

That said, lets look at what I liked. I think we have some talent at the wide receiver position. Marcus Maxwell looked good and I think he is making a case for the third wide out spot. He lined up last night in place of the injured TJ Houshmandzadeh and played well. Jerome Simpson although very raw had some good grabs and field awareness and I can see him contributing in the clutch. Glen Holt also played a nice game.

Chris Perry looked like a beast, if this guy stays healthy the Cincinnati running game will be greatly improved over last season. I believe Perry, Watson and Rudi will create a pretty formidable backfield for the Bengals this season.

Lastly, if we ever need to rely on any backup quarterback play I really like what I am seeing from Ryan Fitzpatrick. While he may not be the caliber quarterback that Palmer is, he has shown a lot of promise this pre-season.

On to the bad, what is up with the offensive line. Stacy Andrews the "Franchise" player gets significant time and gives up two sacks. Of all the places I was worried about, the O Line was not one of them going into this game. We need to lock that up quick.

Special teams, we need to do a better job in every aspect of our special teams. This was one area I was hoping to see the most improvement on this season. We had a field goal blocked and were terrible in limiting the returns on punts and kickoffs. (however, if Chatman continues to return the ball like in the 3rd quarter than he will 100% be on this team).

Who Dey.

Bjork and Key Matchups

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Your a-- got Bjorked, son: Matt Flynn of the Green Bay Packers. Whodeyfans incorrectly predicted a Bjorking of Jordy Nelson, but it was Matt Flynn on the receiving end. Carl-Johan played the last 5 mintues of the game and recorded 2 tackles. Mike Zimmer also called a blitz that brought Bjork face to face with Matt Flynn. Flynn was able to release the ball in time, but that did not save him from the Bjorking as Carl-Johan laid down a mean hit and recorded a QB hurry.

Up this week: This week, we predict Artose Pinner will get Bjorked the f--- out. Pinner is a 6th year pro that has bounced around the league after spending his first 3 seasons in Detroit. He returns to Detroit in a fight for a roster spot at RB. Some late game carries will end with him seeing stars and dreaming of the Swedish bikini team. (Blatantly referenced in order to show a picture)

Key Matchups:Kenny Watson, meet Greg Blue:

Greg Blue is a back up safety for the Lions and will surely meet Kenny Watson in the 2nd quarter. What is going on here with Blue? It looks like they added his hair in photo shop as it doesn't start until the middle of his head. Is he trying to pull a Michael Bolten by growing his hair as long as he can in the back to make up for the lack of hair on top? Watson is not fooled, and he’s not impressed. And he brings back the power of moustache from last season.

Domata Peko vs. Edwin Mulitalo:

This battle of the uglies is going to get started right after kickoff as both players are starters. Mulitalo is a Guard for Detroit while Peko mans the middle of the dline for the Bengals. Peko is fresh off a new contract, and Edwin is clearly unhappy with his contract. Or maybe he hates sharing space with another Samoan. We do not know what it is, but something is tearing Edwin up inside.

Marvin White vs Kevin Smith

Rookie RB Kevin Smith can't conceal his joy of being an NFL football player. Smith, a record breaking RB in college, was drafted in the 3rd round to fight for the starting RB spot. Smith will receive a lot of carries on Sunday and new Bengal headhunter Marvin White will be looking for him. If White gets a clean shot, look out. Too bad Smith is not further down the depth chart. If so, he would play late in the game and get that smile Bjorked off his face.

Stripped Spin: Pre-Season Interviews

Sparks are apparently flying between young corner CB Jonathon Joseph and experienced WR Chad Johnson. When asked about their relationship Joseph said, “He had that look in his eyes”. When asked about Chad’s performance Joseph replied, “I guess he felt more comfortable. He had a day’s rest after the game, and he looked it. When he first came back he was limping a little bit. He didn’t have the explosion.” Regardless of what the explosion is I’m always glad to see such chemistry blossom on the field.

Chad Johnson finally started talking to the local media, but opened Pandora's box when admitting to drug and alcohol problems. When talking to Bengals.com he admitted to medicating in the off season by saying, “At that time I was under medication.” He also hints at an alcohol addiction that he claims to either gotten rid of or given up trying to fix, “I don't take AA classes anymore.” As long as the medication is legal and he doesn’t drive drunk, I’m OK with this version of Chad. Later in the interview he blamed Carson Palmer for his poor performance last season, but it might have been in retaliation of the physical smack across the face delivered by Carson earlier in the day that sent Johnson to the ground.

In an interview with T. J. Houshmandzadeh during discussion about bringing Chris Henry back to the team, T. J. implies not to worry and says, “We have a lot of weapons.” Is T. J. gunning for the open bad boy Bengal position? Further questioning about Henry brought up this reply, “We've lost with him.” “But I figure when I get out there, things will change. I could be wrong, but I figure once I get out there it won't be like that." Whatever he's intending on doing he doesn't want competition.

It’s important to remember that everything in the above article is true, but is purposely taken out of context.

The Return of the Mack

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Sunday marks the triumphant return of the widely popular BHK (Baby Hands Kitna) to The Jungle. Since Jon Kitna and his “What Would Jesus Do” attitude left the Bengals, the team has been like a flock of sheep without their shepherd. Two straight seasons of decline combined with locker room disarray and arrests show the pure leadership ability of the mini-handed cleric. He gained many fans through his openness in interviews and adorable paws.
Last season in Detroit, Kitna made a big name for himself through many different activities. First, he tied for the league lead in INTs for the regular season. Who tied him? Well none other than Bengal star Carson Palmer and Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. That is not bad company. Kitna also led the league in sacks being slammed to the ground 51 times. That is a slight improvement over the 63 times Kitna was dropped the previous season in Detroit. Even though Kitna has been prone to taking sacks throughout his career, it does not sound like much fun playing behind that line in Detroit. Special K’s miniature mitts also led the NFL and set a career high in fumbles last season with 17. “Hold onto the ball baby hands!!” screams Matt Millen.
Kitna made huge news off the field last season in addition to his on field exploits. He made the bold prediction that the Lions would win 10 games and people laughed. However, after a 6-2 start, everyone felt the Lions were for real and were ready to eat their words. But, in true Lions fashion, the team crumbled down the stretch and finished 1-7, leaving them 7-9 for the season. And of course, the biggest Kitna news of 2007, his Halloween costume:

Packer pre-season, what I did and didn't like

Monday, August 11, 2008

We have mentioned many times here on whodeyfans that the play in the pre-season will be very vanilla. However if you are expecting to see improvement in some areas, you will likely see where the team is headed in the pre-season.

Actually, there was a lot that I liked in this game. Parts of the Bengals defense looked like the Bengals defense from the playoff run in 2005. The was some good hitting going on in the secondary. Marvin White (who will also be mentioned in what I didn't like) had some vicious hits and punished the wide receivers for catching the ball. The D also were ball hawks, there were several tips and many times the Bengals were in position to pick off the ball. This is a defense that can thrive on the turnover. We even had some pressure up front on the passing downs.

The Bengals offense looked pretty good. Chris Perry was hitting the holes fast and even though I would hold my breath every time he got the ball hoping he would not get injured, he had a pretty solid night. Good performances were also put up by Ryan Fitzpatrick, Marcus Maxwell and Ben Utecht.

On to what I didn't like. First and foremost, it is going to be a long season if the announcers don't stop talking about Brett Favre. Give it a freaking rest already. Second, the Bengals can not tackle. This has been a curse for this team for some time and it did not seem any different tonight. Marvin White (see I told you) looked for the highlight reel hits instead of wrapping a guy up. This whole team should watch the football movie the program where Latimer is reamed for not wrapping guys up. I want to see snot bubbles.

Our third wide receiver option does not look good right now. It seemed we focused on Holt and Chatman with the first team offense and I was not impressed. We also struggled on our run blocking down field. (also a wr issue)

All in all, good game. I have to give it to the Packer fans, they handled the Brett Favre transition much more gracefully than any of the sports writers / commentators have.

What we think about Brett Favre

Saturday, August 9, 2008

Brett Favre is the most famous man on the planet right now. The news of his trade trumped the Olympics, the war in Iraq and the economy. Cartoon network cut out of its regularly scheduled programming to let viewers know Brett is a Jet.

Let me tell you why I am excited. The last time Favre played the Bengals was one of the greatest things I have ever witnessed. Thank you Greg Gall.

Tim Graham of the Brett Favre network (aka ESPN) thinks Favre is looking forward to the Jets game in Cincinnati this year;

"Oct. 12 vs. Cincinnati Bengals: Favre might have this game already circled. The Jets will be coming off a bye, and the Bengals' defense has a proven track record of getting shredded. They ranked 27th in yards allowed and 26th in passing yards last year. Favre has played the Bengals once in the past five years, a 21-14 loss in Paul Brown Stadium."

Hey Tim, Favre had five interceptions and was shown up by a fan that day. I am sure he can't wait to get back on the field with the Bengals. He had so many turnovers Greg had to get in on the action. I actually scored 4 points in Fantasy Football that day by adding Gall to my team, it would have been 10 if not for the tackle at the 9. I thought he was going to make it.

Yeah, we can't wait to play Favre this year either. I hope Greg makes the trip.

Shirley was a big risk for the 5th round. Questions about his DUI and work ethic made some scouts figure he would go undrafted.

The Bengals saw something and gave him a tour of Cincinnati to put him in the right mind set. First they took him to meet Chris Henry, who was still on house arrest (exibit A). Then they drove him over to Indian Hill to visit John Thorton (exhibit B).

He just might be getting the message. And it could pay off huge for the Bengals. Bengals.com (whole story).

Preseason Week 1 -- Bengals vs. Packers

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

A huge storm swirls around Green Bay in anticipation of the Packers first preseason contest. The major sentiment among Packers fans, what will Carl-Johan Bjork do in his return to Green Bay? Bengals international star LB Carl-Johan spent last year on the Packer’s practice squad where he picked off Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers passes daily and with ease. Bjork has gone on record that to say that he is not very impressed with either QB. Monday night, expect a major ovation when Bjork first enters the game to show Green Bay what they will be missing this season.

What to watch, Bengals offense: This preseason is no different than last preseason for the Bengals offense. Last season, the Bengals were trying to replace Eric Steinbach on the offensive line, while also looking for a 3rd receiver to replace Chris Henry. Again this year, the Bengals look to find the right mix on the o-line and a 3rd receiver, however both are minor issues this season. With Willie and Levi supposedly healthy this year, the o-line has the depth to be successful. The only problem could be center Eric Ghiacuic and his inability to keep his back out of Carson Palmer’s chest. If he has not improved over last season, look for the Bengals to get Bobbie Williams work at center. As for the 3rd receiver, the Bengals added receiving tight end Ben Utecht in the offseason, marginalizing the 3rd receiver need. If Chris Perry offers a healthy threat out of the backfield, the Bengals may not even use a 3rd receiver and opt to go with Perry, Coats/Kelly, Utecht, Chad and TJ on third down.

What to watch, Bengals defense: Everything. Everything is new this year, scheme, personnel, outlook, everything. The only players that may be repeating the same roles as last season are Peko and Jeanty. New coordinator Mike Zimmer supposedly brings a fresh and aggressive style that has been lacking from the Bengals defense. Coaches do not gameplan for preseason games, so Monday probably will not provide a strong barometer for the Bengals defense. However, we can notice alignment differences and looks the Bengals use. Are the corners going to play tight this season? Who will be in on third down? Will Geathers play everywhere? How will the d-line rotate? These are a few things to notice heading into the regular season and Zimmer’s true debut.
Again this preseason we will be watching the LBs to see what the future holds. Bengals fans will experience their first glimpse of 9th overall draft pick Keith Rivers. Rivers will not be starting and will only have a few practices under his belt, so do not expect much playing time. When he gets thrown in there, what fans will see are his natural instincts and aggressiveness since he will not be up to speed on the Bengals scheme. It should be fun to watch. Another intriguing focus for game one is Ahmad Brooks. Here is a guy athletic enough to be handed the starting middle linebacker job on pure ability. He followed that up by showing the work ethic and capacity to pick up the defensive scheme to be demoted to third string strong side backer. How will he react? Will Mike Zimmer find a use for him? If Brooks cannot get with the program, he can look forward to another season on the Gameday Inactive list just like his rookie season. I doubt the Bengals would cut him since they spent a third round draft pick on him.

What you do want to see: A quick slant pass knocked down by a Bengals corner because he is playing tight to the line.

What you don’t want to see: Carson Palmer short step a throw and hit his hand on Ghiacuic because Ghiacuic has been pushed into Palmer’s face.

New look Bengals: His Rowe-ness cleaned up his act over the offseason. He must have gone back to his hometown of Reno, Nevada and hit the National Bowling Stadium for the PBA Pro-Am Tournament. Ordinary chumps can’t survive that show.

Meanwhile, an aggressive move has been made by Bengal tackle Scott Kooistra in a valiant attempt to pass the newly suave Jeff Rowe. Whodeyfans believes Kooistra has succeeded in his quest.

Player most likely to get Bjorked: Jordy Nelson. The third receiver picked in this year’s draft will attempt to up his playing time by being a kick and punt returner. Carl-Johan should get some time on special teams. Fans from all over the globe will glue themselves to the tv until Carl-Johan lays out Jordy Nelson on a punt return and offers him a “Welcome to the league, rookie.”

Cheerbabe Challenge: The Packers do not have cheerleaders, and in Green Bay a proper reaction is to lay a block of cheese on your head. Maybe the Packers feel the cold Green Bay weather denies cheerleaders the possibility of wearing proper cheerleading attire. If they truly believe that, then I agree. What’s the point of having cheerleaders if they can’t wear skimpy clothes and have big 80s rock hair? But Whodeyfans must say that Packer management is seriously underestimating the dedication to the art of cheer. We are sure, if given the chance to strut their stuff, many Green Bay women would brave the cold to please the Green Bay fans. Whodeyfans suggests that the Packers have cheerleader tryouts and see what happens. Suggested name: The Freezers.
In the mean time, let’s celebrate some new additions to the 2008 Ben-gal cheersquad:

First, Lauren B who would like to meet "Hugh Hefner and Bill Gates for their ability to build a business against strong criticism"

Next is Lindsay, her favorite Bengals player is, “It takes a team to win...” Hmmm, I think that is code for, “Who are the Bengals?” Or perhaps she is just a Communist.

And finally is Jade, she is currently studying for the Ohio Bar and will hopefully be authorized to practice law in November. She would like to meet "Thomas Jefferson, to discuss the thought processes behind building the republican form of government, all of his accomplishments, and whether the current state of the country even remotely resembles what he had in mind." Uhhh, are you sure you’re in the right room?

Marvin's Doing His Job

Marvin's old saying was "Do your job." The implication always was, just do what you're supposed to do, don't worry what the next guy's supposed to do. But he hasn't always been true to this slogan, especially when it came to the defense.

Which is why, to me, this is the best news I’ve heard since training camp opened:

Right tackle Willie Anderson on the presence of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer:

"You no longer see Marvin (Lewis) coaching every position on defense," Anderson said. "Marvin told me this summer, `I don't get a chance to say anything. Zim's got the whole defense locked down.' "

This is from today’s Bengals Notebook in the Enquirer.

I said at the end of last season that Marvin needed to find a defensive coordinator who could implement his own system. Let Marvin be a head coach, and let the D coordinator do his own thing. And do it great.

The above quote suggests to me that Zimmer is at least doing his own thing. That’s a step in the right direction. Time will tell if he’s doing it great.

The defense is getting hit hard in training camp though. First it was Antwan Odom and Rivers’ holdout. Now, it looks like Chinedum Ndukwe may be hurt as well.
